F1 2020 is a Formula 1 racing simulator that invites players to create their own teams. While the game includes all of the real teams that raced in the 2020 season, it's also added a number of features designed to increase the number of customization options available to those who want a deeper experience.

Gamers who relish the thought of managing an entire FIA-registered racing organization can enable the My Team dashboard, which is far more in-depth than previous F1 career modes. It gives players the freedom to expand the World Drivers' Championship to 11 teams and manage their own pool of competitors if they so choose. Users can create their own statistics or enjoy content based on the careers of people like Bruce McLaren and Jack Brabham.

Before you start to configure your team and draft personnel, you'll be given the option to set the difficulty level of the experience. While this does impact things like driver AI and whether you use a manual or automatic transmission, the difficulty control can be used to fine tune many aspects of the game outside of these simple concepts. In fact, you could say that so many options are offered that it's almost like you're playing more games in one.

Depending on your point of view, this might be somewhat of a drawback. Some racing game aficionados aren't going to be interested in manipulating menus and managing different drivers. However, it could be said that these functions aren't geared toward this kind of player to begin with. F1 2020 is attempting to reach out to those who both compete in serious online play and want the feeling of a strat-sim style of gameplay.

Those who do like customizing every little aspect of their experience won't find anything lacking here. You're free to pick from 48 different head models if you plan on creating your own driver. The developers even added seven new female heads for this mode. Over time, you'll be able to level up your drivers and improve your organization into one that can put more competitive cars out on the track.

Perhaps the most notable addition is in the form of a presentation manager. F1 2020 makes everything look like a real television broadcast. You can adjust camera angles in ways that are modeled after those used on live broadcasts. If you're far enough away from the screen, then you might even swear you were watching a real Formula 1 race. The graphics subsystems are all very high-end and demand pretty strong hardware, but it's worth it for something with this much punch.

Real-world racing fans may get the most out of the game. It offers virtual drivers all of the real teams and tracks they'd come into contact with when following the actual sport. Some of the tracks are reproduced here with such detail that they look like the genuine article right down to background items. If you've ever wanted to see every last tree that surrounds the Nürburgring reproduced in striking detail, then you'll find them in F1 2020 along with all of the buildings that circle the track.
